A realistic Halloween decoration at a Bay Area home led to a concerned citizen reporting them to the Peninsula Humane Society.

According to KRON, the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 5, in a San Mateo neighborhood.

The Humane Society received a report that a tarantula was on a rooftop. When an officer with animal rescue control arrived, they climbed up the stairs to get to the roof to bring the spider down.

Buffy Martin Tarbox with the humane society told KRON that when the officer reached the roof they began laughing after realizing the tarantual was actually a fake Halloween decoration.

The officer put the decoration in a box they use for catching tarantulas and bats. The photo of the fake tarantula in a box was posted onto the humane society's Twitter account.

The homeowners told the officer they didn't realize the decoration was up on their roof. According to Tarbox, it had never been taken down from last year's decorations.

This kind of thing rarely happens to the Animal Rescue Control Center but they do have a few funny stories.

They once received calls about a bird being stuck in a wall but it turned out to be a fire alarm chirping due to low batteries.

One resident reported an alligator spotting which turned out to be a plastic alligator.
