Alex Lifeson might have no plans to tour again, but the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and guitar hero hasn't slowed down when it comes to making music.

In the years since Rush's final tour, Lifeson has kept busy with studio work and creative collaborations with a variety of artists. He's steadily accumulated solo material, as well.

Late-last week Lifeson unveiled a solo track, dubbed "Cherry Lopez Lullaby," which he says was inspired by a cannabis product he used during the mixing of Rush's 2012 album Clockwork Angels.

Lifeson says the track was mostly written in a Los Angeles hotel room during the early morning hours. He said he would wake up before dawn (due to jet lag), smoke some Cherry Lopez indica and play guitar to pass the time until the studio opened.

"Because I was on an EST body clock, I was up most mornings @ 5:00 AM," he writes. "I'd order coffee, sit on my hotel room balcony, read the paper and wake and bake then dive into making some fun sounds while the city was waking up. I had some borrowed acoustic and electric guitars for the duration, thankfully, as sitting around waiting to go to the studio was tedious and certainly, a bowl of Cherry kept my appetite healthy."

Lifeson revealed a good deal of new music this summer, including a pair of solo tracks called "Kabul Blues" and "Spy House" and a plans for a full-length album with a group called Envy of None, featuring Coney Hatch bassist Andy Curran.
