Every November 1, vegans across the globe celebrate World Vegan Day.

The annual event was established in 1994 by Lousie Wallis, who was the Chair of The Vegan Society in the United Kingdom at the time, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the organization and the coining of the terms "vegan" and "veganism."

If you're looking for some great plant-based eats in San Diego, Eater San Diego compiled a list of essential vegan and vegetarian restaurants in the city.
