The trailer for Baz Luhrmann's long-awaited Elvis Presley biopic has arrived.
Elvis is due in theaters in the U.S. on June 24. It stars Austin Butler as the King of Rock 'n' Roll and Tom Hanks as Elvis's controversial manager Col. Tom Parker.
The film explores key moments of Elvis's life from his introduction to Gospel music and rhythm & blues as a child, his discovery by Parker, his artistic prime and his tragic later years.
"The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parking spanning over 20 years, from Presley's rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America," reads a press release for the film.
Col. Parker is a crucial but problematic figure in Elvis's story.
The Dutch-born talent manager was essential to Elvis's early development as a singer, performer, film star and pop culture icon. However, Parker is also largely blamed for capping Elvis's career, committing him to a series of onerous contracts and preventing him from ever touring outside the U.S.
Production of Elvis was beset by numerous pandemic-related delays, including in March of 2020 when the film shut down after Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson contracted COVID-19. Shooting resumed in September of 2020 and the film's release was pushed to this coming summer.
