An iconic Italian restaurant is moving halfway across the country. According to SFGATE, Baonecci Ristorante in North Beach is starting new in Frisco, Texas. The owners Walter and Stefania Gambaccini were forced to close up shop last year due to pandemic-related challenges.

Now, the couple has moved and is opening a new iteration of their restaurant named Caffe Baonecci. “We traveled to see how places were handling COVID-19, and we had some friends here,” Walter told Dallas CultureMap. “We saw that Texas was booming, especially where we are in Frisco.”

Baonecci Ristorante was known for its thin-crust pizzas, fresh-made pasta, and cozy ambiance. The restaurant was even named by Eater as one of the best Italian restaurants in San Francisco. The eatery was even featured on the silver screen.

In Mrs. Doubtfire, Robin Williams' character Daniel Hillard moved into an apartment above the restaurant although it was Danilo Bakery at that time, according to SFGATE. The restaurant was then featured in the 2014 film Big Eyes by Tim Burton.

Cafe Baonecci is expected to open in Texas later this spring. The new location will offer some of the original locations staples like Bolognese and tortellini stuffed with porcini mushrooms. They will also feature a full bar with specialty cocktails.
