Women's History Month and International Women's Day (Tuesday, March 8) is the perfect time to reflect on how far we've come in reaching gender equality and how far we've yet to go. One area that women's rights advocates have been fighting to end is the gender pay gap.

Despite attempts to achieve equal pay for workers, Business.org reports that men will earn $10,381 more than women will across the nation in 2022. To break down the nuances in the gender pay gap, and to see which states are making progress, the website released a report of the gender pay gap in every state.

In California, women earn 14.5% less compared to male workers with the average male salary being $61,315 and the average female salary being $52,402.

Overall, Washington DC pays women the highest median salary and has the smallest wage gap in the nation. Wyoming has the worst wage gap where women earn only 65.4% of what men earn. The states with the worst wage gaps range from 21.8% to a whopping 34.6%.
