The first new music featuring late-Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins arrived Thursday as a "tribute within a tribute."

Hawkins sings lead vocals on a track from Edgar Winter's new album Brother Johnny, an LP tribute to the music of Edgar's late-brother blues guitar legend Johnny Winter.

Since Taylor's passing last month at age 50, Edgar described the rendition of Johnny's "Guess I'll Go Away" as a tribute to both departed musicians.

"It's such an odd happenstance," Edgar told ABC News. "I mean, here's a guy that's singing a tribute song to my brother, Johnny, and he sings the song and then ... passes away himself. And in similar circumstances. ... It's just bizarre and very compelling."

Hawkins was found dead his a hotel room in Bogotá, Colombia, following a Foo Fighters performance the previous night at a festival. Johnny passed in 2014 at age 70 in a hotel room near Zürich, Switzerland, while on tour in Europe.

Edgar says his brother wrote "Guess I'll Go Away" around the first time he went to rehab. He says the song is about rock 'n' roll's many perils and temptations.

"I would guess (like most all musicians) Taylor couldn’t help but identify with it," said Edgar. "All I know is he put his whole heart and soul into it, and I am so sad that I never found a way to thank him properly as he so deeply and profoundly deserved."

The album also features performances by Joe Walsh, Billy Gibbons, Steve Lukather, Michael McDonald and others.

Brother Johnny is available now to stream or buy; you can start listening via iHeartRadio through the player above!

Edgar says vinyl editions of the album will be available by mid-June.
