The idea of intruders breaking into your home and going through your personal belongings while you're away is scary enough, but one California man had this happen to him while he was inside his home.
KTLA reports a Hollywood Hills man was home watching TV on Sunday night (April 17) when four to five people broke in and began rummaging through his belongings. He told the news station his dog started barking around 11:15 P.M. but he assumed there was just a raccoon or wild animal walking across the roof of his home at Pacific View Drive.
Suddenly, he remembered he had left a bedroom door unlocked and he decided to check his security camera. On the screen, he saw a man with a hood and mask in his garage. He called 911 and an operator told him to get into a bathroom and asked if he was safe. "I guess I’m safe … This is a small house. These guys can come right in," he told the operator.
Eventually, he peeked outside to see if police had arrived but he thinks the suspects saw him and decided to flee the property. After watching more surveillance videos, he said he saw several people "racing out" of his house. While they were described as young men, all of the suspects were wearing face masks.
Police told the man to add more lights and motion sensors around his property to keep an incident like this from happening again. While he said he'll take their advice he is still understandably spooked. “I can’t sleep. My house is lit up like a Christmas tree now because I’m just freaked out.”
