Here's Why Tyler Hubbard Gave Tim McGraw A Sneak Peek Of '5 Foot 9'

As Tyler Hubbard is getting ready to release more new music, the country singer-songwriter is still reflecting on his debut solo single. “5 Foot 9” is a sweet song inspired by Hubbard’s wife, Hayley. But Hubbard shared that there was one other important person who had to hear the song before it released.

“5 Foot 9” namechecks country superstar Tim McGraw in the chorus, so Hubbard — who collaborated with McGraw on “Undivided” in 2020 — decided he had to tell the “7500 OBO” singer himself.

“God makes five foot nine, brown eyes, and a sundress/ Loves Tim McGraw and a small town accent/ Ain’t no way that me and this truck made her fall in love/ Jack makes good whiskey but God makes the good stuff/ Oh, God makes the good stuff”

“It worked out great because I love McGraw,” Hubbard reflected, per his record label. “He was a huge impact on my music and my career. A big influence. And also, yeah, I mean, I’ve worked with him recently. I’ve really grown to love him and admire and respect who he is and how he handles himself and how he runs his business. And so, yeah, I sent it to him actually a few weeks ago and said, ‘Hey, I just want you to have a heads up. My first single is going to have a shout out to you. And it you know, I want you to hear it first for me, but I highly respect you and what you stand for and who you are and and just want you to know I love you. And this is this is coming out soon.’”

Hubbard followed “5 Foot 9” with “35’s,” a song he said quickly became “an anthem in my home that I never get tired of.” More new music is on the way, and Hubbard hinted on Instagram on Friday (July 8) that it’ll happen soon: “Had the time of my life making these new songs. Can’t wait to share more music with y’all soon…maybe a little sooner than you think. Who’s ready?”
