As evidenced by packed stadiums all over the world and performances on literally all seven continents, Metallica's music is for everyone.

The band's fanbase is swelling again this week, following another major pop culture moment, courtesy of the "Master of Puppets" scene in the Stranger Things season four finale.

As youngsters flock to Metallica's social media for the first time and vault an 8-and-a-half-minute thrash metal epic from 1986 back up the charts, a small segment of the fanbase is giving the newcomers a hard time.

"I'm sorry Metallica for all the fake Stranger Things fans love ya," one fan wrote on TikTok, in the comments of a live "Master of Puppets" clip.

But Metallica, like a benevolent big brother, is defending the new kids at its heavy metal school.

"Don't be sorry," the band replied. "Everyone is welcome in the Metallica Family. If they like Puppets, chances are they'll find plenty of other songs to get into."

The band followed up with a note pinned atop the comments section, broadly addressing the gatekeeping trend.

"FYI - EVERYONE is welcome in the Metallica Family," it reiterated. "Whether you've been a fan for 40 hours or 40 years, we all share a bond through music.

"All of you started at ground zero at one point in time."

Earlier this week, Metallica expressed its excitement over the pivotal Stranger Things moment, complimenting the show's creators and actor Joseph Quinn, who actually learned how to play the song on guitar for the scene.

"It's an incredible honor to be such a big part of Eddie's journey and to once again be keeping company with all of the other amazing artists featured in the show," the band wrote in a statement.

Metallica is wrapping up its European tour this week. The band has a few U.S. performances later this summer. Go here for the tour dates.
