A new Beyonce release is always big news. The MTV VMA Show Sunday night was the stage for a new Beyonce release that wasn't music, but did feature her voice - the new Gatorade commercial honoring Serena Williams.

Beyonce and Serena have always been close - with the tennis legend appearing in her "Sorry" video and showing up at various tour spots over the years - and the singer writing the song "Be Alive" for "King Richard" - the movie about Serena's family. So as Gatorade memorialized their long-standing relationship with Serena with a commemorative commercial/tribute, it made sense that Queen Bey did the voice-over.

The commercial, which recognizes Serena's legend as well as her influence on generations of black women, was directed by Jake Nava - who directed Beyonce's "Crazy In Love" video.
