Each county has at least a few houses that were built long before the rest. The oldest homes are typically easy to tell apart from newer builds, and are likely located off of the same streets. Maybe these properties are historic sites that remain just has they were decades ago, or maybe they were repurposed and turned into a popular town attraction. Regardless, the oldest houses built in each state can tell you a lot about the region. The county in which the oldest houses were built is where Americans first settled into the state. These houses tell a story of what early life looked like in Ohio based on the architecture and specific attributes that they possess.
Here is what Stacker had to say about compiling the data to find where the oldest homes are located:
"Stacker compiled a list of the counties in Ohio with the oldest homes using data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Counties are ranked by median year the structure was built according to 2020 5-year estimates. Ties broken by the highest percentage of homes built before 1939."
