Kelly Clarkson fans can look forward to new music next year. The singer tells "Variety" that she’s recorded a new album that will come out in 2023, and will have her singing songs inspired by her divorce from Brandon Blackstock.
“It’s coming out next year. And this is an important album,” she says. “I’m working on this in therapy: I have a hard time vocalizing what I’m feeling sometimes, so music is helpful for me.” She adds, "It’s just been really healing. I recorded the record quite some time ago.”
She says that when she and Brandon first separated “it was hard,” and she and her producer wrote “like 25 songs in a week,” noting, “ a lot of those are the ones that are on the album.” Kelly says she “needed” to write about her divorce, adding she initially questioned whether to release them.
“Some of the songs, they definitely cover the gamut of emotions; there’s everything on the album,” she says. “It’s almost like the arc of a relationship, because the beginning is so beautiful and so sweet, and then it evolves. And sometimes it doesn’t evolve how you want.”
