Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the creator of the hit Netflix show The Crown, which centers on her time as monarch, has released a statement. "The Crown is a love letter to her," Peter Morgan said per Deadline. "I’ve nothing to add for now, just silence and respect. I expect we will stop filming out of respect too." Deadline also reported that Morgan won't be making any further comments about the Queen's death.

On Friday, September 9th, a source at Netflix confirmed to the outlet that filming on the show has been temporarily suspended. "As a mark of respect, filming on The Crown was suspended today. Filming will also be suspended on the day of Her Majesty The Queen’s funeral," the source said.

Netflix has reportedly had a plan in place should Queen Elizabeth die during its run. During the show's first season, when the 25-year-old version of the monarch was played by Claire Foye, director Stephen Daldry revealed the show would stop for a respectable period of time.

“None of us know when that time will come but it would be right and proper to show respect to the Queen. It would be a simple tribute and a mark of respect. She’s a global figure and it’s what we should do,” he told Deadline back in 2016 when the show debuted. Imelda Staunton is set to take over the role of the Queen from Olivia Colman in season 5 of the show which is due on Netflix in November.
