When San Francisco residents move, you would probably expect them to move out of the state for the most part but that is not the case at all!

Using information from the U.S. Census Bureau, Stacker compiled a list of where people in San Francisco-Oakland-Berkeley, CA Metro Area are moving to the most and a lot of San Francisco residents are actually staying in the Bay Area when they move.

Here are the top 5 places that San Francisco residents are relocating to:

3:Los Angeles or Long Beach

Migration to Los Angeles in 2015-2019: 16,425

Migration from Los Angeles to San Francisco: 19,738 (#2 most common destination from Los Angeles)

Net migration: 3,313 to San Francisco

2: Sacramento/Folsom/Roseville

Migration to Los Angeles in 2015-2019: 16,425

Migration from Los Angeles to San Francisco: 19,738 (#2 most common destination from Los Angeles)

1: San Jose/Sunnyvale/Santa Clara

Migration to San Jose in 2015-2019: 21,009
