U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents made an interesting discovery in Eagle Pass this week.
Over $400,000 worth of liquid methamphetamine was found hidden inside condom wrappers inside a hollowed out pumpkin, CBP said in a news release. The discovery was made on Tuesday (October 11) at the Eagle Pass Camino Real International Bridge. Officials encountered a 2012 Ford Escape arriving from Mexico. During the agents' inspection, 44 pounds of alleged liquid methamphetamine was found concealed within 136 condoms inside four pumpkins in the car.
"Our frontline CBP officers have seen just about everything and this Tuesday was no exception as they encountered liquid methamphetamine hidden within pumpkins. They utilized their training, experience, interviewing skills and uncovered a rather novel narcotics smuggling method in the process," said Acting Port Director Elizabeth Garduno.
CBP officials seized the drugs, car and turned the driver and passenger over to the custody of the Maverick County Sheriff's Office for further investigation.
