Although the classic TV special "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" won't air this Halloween for a second year in a row, Wisconsin residents have been given an opportunity to see a truly great pumpkin up close.
- A pumpkin grown in Waupun by gardener Tom Montsma is tipping the scales at 2,046 pounds, making it a contender for the biggest pumpkin in Wisconsin's history. Montsma says he plans on claiming the title when he enters it into the upcoming Wisconsin Giants Pumpkin Growers competition.
- Montsma, who grew the pumpkin to follow through on a 2012 promise he made to his dying mother, says his secret to producing such a huge vegetable is using nutrient-rich soil.
"I feed a lot of fish and seaweed fertilizer two to three, four times a week," he says.
