Metallica frontman James Hetfield paid tribute to one of his favorite characters from one of his favorite Netflix shows on Halloween, dressing up as Stranger Things' Eddie Munson.

Metallica's music was featured in the show this summer, when the Munson character performed "Master of Puppets" during a pivotal scene in the finale. The sync proved to be a huge deal, as it introduced one of Metallica's most ambitious songs to a new generation of fans.

The 8-minute thrash metal epic, which didn't chart upon its release in 1986, vaulted into the Billboard Top 40 for the first time ever. Metallica followed up by releasing an animated music video for the song, and meeting up with Munson actor Joseph Quinn to perform it backstage at Lollapalooza.

Hetfield's Halloween costume is a full circle moment, if you think about it.

There's a non-zero chance that the Eddie Munson character, his style and mannerisms, were based on Hetfield's look from Metallica's early days. Compare Munson's hairdo to Hetfield's long locks from the mid-'80s.

While Hetfield might not have had to look outside of his own closet for his Munson gear, his enthusiasm for Stranger Things is genuine. The singer says his family has watched the show together since its debut in 2016.
