A paraglider in Florida helped rescue an elderly woman who was trapped in her submerged car for several hours. In a video posted to InstagramCristiano Piquet said he was enjoying his regular Sunday morning paragliding session when he saw a woman clinging to her car as she struggled to stay above the water.

"Then I turn around to get a better shot with my GoPro, and I see a car in the canal, in the same canal," Piquet told WSVN, "and I flew closer to the car, and I saw someone inside the car, like, asking for help."

Piquet landed near the canal and rushed over to help. With the assistance of a man who lives nearby, the woman was safely pulled from the water.

"So we threw her a rope, and she was free, she was alive," said Piquet. "Everything happened so fast, and after we got her to safety, we called 911."

The woman, 64-year-old Marcia Fuste, was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Fuste spoke to WTVJ from her hospital bed and said she is doing better and could be released in the coming days.

She explained that she got lost after a long drive and ended up on a dirt road. She continued to follow the road until she crashed into the canal.

"There was a big canal, and I slid right down into it. Thank God the [car] window was open on my side, and I crawled out really quick," said Fuste. "I was trying to keep my head above water, and I did that from 7:30 until 7-something in the morning when the light came out, and the gliders found me."

She said she spent several hours trying to keep her head above the water and thought nobody was going to find her.

"The most frightening experience of my life. I was so far into the boonies that I thought I was going to be there for days, for days," said Fuste.
