Texas Cop Shot During Active Shooter Training At Elementary School

A Texas police officer is in critical condition after she was shot during an active shooter training at David K. Sellars Elementary School in Forest Hill on Saturday (November 6).

The officer was identified as Lina Mino with the Sansom Park Police Department by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Lino was struck by a single bullet just after 2 p.m. and was rushed to the hospital, where she remains in critical but stable condition.

Officials said that the multi-department exercise was being conducted by a third-party training provider. The officers were not supposed to have live ammunition, and investigators are trying to determine how a loaded gun ended up being discharged.

"The training provider is the one who provided the weapons. This was not a live fire training. That's all I know. How the weapon was introduced, we don't know," Everman Police Chief Craig Spencer told reporters.

Spencer noted that only law enforcement personnel were inside the school at the time of the shooting.

"At this time, there is not any reason to believe that there is a criminal element here, but obviously, anytime we have a shooting like this, we will conduct a thorough and proper investigation into it," Spencer said.

The Texas Rangers and Tarrant County Sheriff's Office are running point on the investigation.
