Two teenagers are facing charges in the fatal shooting of a student at a Seattle high school earlier this week, according to KOMO. The 14-year-old suspect appeared in the Child and Family Justice Center Wednesday afternoon (November 9), while the 15-year-old suspect waived his right to appear in court.

The judge found probable cause to charge the 14-year-old with first-degree murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of a dangerous weapon at a school facility. There's also probable cause to charge the 15-year-old with second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and first-degree rendering criminal assistance. Reporters have not identified the suspects since they are minors.

The parents of the 15-year-old reportedly pleaded with the judge to release their son.

“We just moved up here and he got in with the wrong people,” the teen's father said during the hearing. “He’s never been trouble before.”

Seattle Police responded to Ingraham High School Tuesday around 10 a.m. on reports of a shooting, providing treatment before the paramedics arrived. Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Brent Jones said the student was shot “in what is believed to be a targeted attack" at a press conference later that afternoon.

The 14-year-old suspect was arrested near North 145th Street and Aurora Avenue North, nearly an hour after the shooting. Cops also found a firearm in their backpack at the time of the arrest, Diaz added. The 15-year-old was also with the alleged gunman and was detained, per The Associated Press.

“It’s heartbreaking for everybody involved here, certainly for the victims, for everyone involved and everyone at that school who will be impacted and remember this for the rest of their lives,” Casey McNerthney with the King County Prosecutor’s Office said.
