A giant church bell was recently stolen from a cemetery chapel in Southern Minnesota, according to Bring Me The News.

The bell, which weighs about 1,000 pounds, was reported missing on October 15 from the Swan Lake Cemetery chapel in Dassel. As of Tuesday (November 8) the police unfortunately do not have any leads as to who might have stolen it, according to Meeker County Chief Deputy Becky Howell.

"It's really disappointing someone would do something like that," she told Bring Me The News. Howell also said she believes the bell was most likely taken by multiple people, due to its sheer weight and size.

The bell has deep historical roots. It was a gift to the Swan Lake Lutheran Church, which used to stand where the current chapel is, in the 1900s. The Old Apostolic Lutheran Church later inherited the bell when the building was sold to them.

A similar incident happened back in January. A large bell was taken from a cemetery in Nicollet, but it was later recovered. Two people were arrested in relation to the incident.

Anyone with any information regarding where the bell might be have been asked to please call the sheriff's office at 320-693-5400.
