Billy Joel has been forced to postpone his show tonight (Monday, December 19) at Madison Square Garden on doctor's orders.

The Piano Man is reportedly recovering from illness and has been ordered by his doctor to rest before singing again.

"Billy Joel is under strict doctor's orders to vocal rest due to a viral infection and as a result, his concert scheduled for Monday, December 19, at Madison Square Garden is postponed to Friday, June 2," read a statement from The Garden. "We understand the inconvenience this causes everyone who purchased tickets, and we apologize for the unexpected circumstance."

All tickets purchased for the December 19 show will be honored at the new date in June with no exchanges necessary.

MSG did note, however, that the June 2 date is subject to change if it conflicts with any Rangers or Knicks playoff games.

Tonight's concert would have been the 86th show of Joel's record-breaking concert residency at the World's Most Famous Arena. Joel is expected to be recovered in time for his next scheduled MSG concert on January 13 2023.

Last week, Joel's camp announced that the residency would continue through at least May; tonight's postponement extends The Garden's longest-running music franchise through June.

Joel began playing monthly concerts in New York City in January of 2014. As of this month, he's sold out the venue more than 130 times in his career.
