April 17, 2023
An immersive new museum dedicated to pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart has opened its doors in her hometown of Atchison, Kansas. According to a local media report, the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum is the culmination of seven years of development and cost a whopping $17 million to complete. At the center of the sizeable facility is the last remaining Lockheed Electra 10-E, which was the same type of plane that the aviator was flying when she infamously vanished while attempting to circumnavigate the globe. "This was the second off the line in 1935," museum founder Karen Seaberg explained, "Amelia’s was 11th or 12th. She chose this plane because it could go higher, faster than any plane at the time, and now we have the last one.”
