Brandy Clark shared the story behind one of the tracks that’s set to appear on her forthcoming album, and how a setback with another project unexpectedly led to a stunning rendition of “Buried.”
Clark reflected on the day she recorded “Buried” in an Instagram caption on Monday (May 15), just a few short days before the debut of her whole record on Friday (May 19). She teamed up with fellow singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile to produce the self-titled album. On the day Clark and Carlile recorded “Buried,” Clark said she “had an unexpected setback” with Shucked, the Broadway musical that featured music and lyrics she and songwriter Shane McAnally penned. Though Clark felt emotional in the studio that day.
“The day that [Brandi Carlile] and I recorded ‘Buried,’ we had an unexpected setback with Shucked. I stepped out of the studio to take a call and came back in with that ‘I just cried’ voice right before we laid down vocals on this track,” Clark reflected as she shared a snippet of the song. “I’m so glad that Brandi convinced me to keep this original vocal because it is true, raw, and vulnerable - everything that this record is.”
