Garth Brooks dished about his soon-to-kick-off residency in Las Vegas during a new episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show on Thursday morning (May 18), and unveiled new performances happening next year.
Garth Brooks/Plus ONE, The Vegas Residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, is slated to start on Thursday. The country music megastar will perform dozens of shows spanning 2023 and 2024. Brooks took Good Morning America backstage of his residency ahead of its opening night, sharing that he plans “on being here ‘til they throw me out, so we’ll see how long that is. …I think I’ll go to my grave thinking, ‘This might be the only time God made a mistake.’ How is this happening? How do people show up? I don’t see why they buy a ticket to a Garth Brooks show, but it’s so cool that they do.”
“It’s the Colosseum at Caesars…so it’s right in the heart of Vegas,” Brooks said on Good Morning America when he announced his residency. “We’re calling it the ‘plus one’ because we’re gonna try something we’ve never tried before. …The band is coming, but it’s the one-man show. They’re gonna sit in the audience. So, at any time you want a fiddle just to come up and join you, any time you just want percussion and background to come up and sing or it's just you — or just bring the whole band up to do ‘Friends in Low Places’ — this should be stupid.”
Brooks also surprised Kelly Clarkson with his Las Vegas residency announcement after challenging her in a game of “New Phone, Who Dis?,” prompting the original American Idol champ to guess her mystery guest’s identity. He finally offered the hint that he’s often known as “Mr. Yearwood,” in reference to his superstar wife, Trisha Yearwood (he previously said he’s “hoping she’s gonna make some trips with us” for the Vegas residency. He added on GMA on Thursday that when Yearwood sings, “it’s something you’ve never seen before. I have pulled her over after a show before, and I go, ‘Look, can you make it look hard?’”). Appearing on the show on Thursday, Brooks also gushed over Dolly Parton and shared a story about Steven Tyler. Watch his interview clips below.
