Garth Brooks is slated to headline the first-ever Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff, marking the beginning of the 2023 college football season, at Caesars SuperDome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The lineup also includes Baskin, Louisiana-born superstar Lainey Wilson and country-rock icons Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. The all-star event is slated for Saturday, September 2.

“We comin’ home to Louisiana with the one, the only, Garth Brooks,” the “Watermelon Moonshine” songstress said in a video posted to her social media channels as the event was announced on Wednesday (July 12). “Me and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band are gonna be opening the show. …It’s gonna be a good time.”

Likewise, the “Fishin’ in the Dark” hitmakers posted that they’re “excited to announce we'll be performing at the inaugural Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff” with Wilson and Brooks.

The first-ever Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff, presented by the Louisiana Office of Tourism, is expected to become an annual Labor Day weekend event in New Orleans, according to the Allstate Sugar Bowl

“Being asked to be part of the first ever Sugar Bowl Country Kickoff is an honor,” Brooks said in a statement. “The fun will be in getting to perform with Legends Nitty Gritty and future legend Miss Wilson in front of arguably the greatest country music fans on the planet. Any trip to Louisiana is a guaranteed good time so PLEASE count me in!!”
