Scotty McCreery retreated to the North Carolina mountains and penned a heartache anthem that makes its debut as he works on his fifth full-length studio album. The country star released “Cab In A Solo” on Friday (August 18).

McCreery said he teamed up with “my buddies” while sitting around a fire to write new music. He and cowriters Brent Anderson and Frank Rogers came up with “Cab In A Solo,” telling the story of a heartbroken man who learns the hard way that the girlfriend he’s hoping to reconcile with has apparently opted to move on instead. Now, McCreery says “Cab in A Solo” is “one of my favorites I’ve ever written.” He sings, with a classic country sound:

“Sittin' here, I can't believe what I just saw/ Couple shadows kissin' on the bedroom wall/ It's lookin' like my plan didn't work out at all/ Heartbreak turned into broke up/ So now I'm findin' out how a heartbreak taste/ With a Silver Oak, 1998/ Drinkin' cab in a solo/ Solo in the cab of my truck”

McCreery began to tease the heartbreak song’s release earlier this month, including after posting a brief audio clip with a photo of two solo cups and a bottle of wine left on the seat of a truck. He captioned it with only three emojis: a pickup truck, a man and a glass of wine. McCreery confirmed earlier this year that work on his fifth full-length studio album is underway, following Same TruckSeasons ChangeSee You Tonight and Clear As Day. Listen to “Cab In A Solo” here:
