Dan + Shay consider what would happen if they “go rogue” to prove that they’re not just the “ballad guys” or the “first dance guys.” Instead, the award-winning duo ushered a crowd to the dance floor with their electrifying new wedding anthem.

Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney unveiled “We Should Get Married” to kick off the weekend, including a high-energy music video that sees wedding guests partying at a Las Vegas chapel. The opening scene of the video sees Dan + Shay preparing to perform a couple’s first dance song when the wedding planner appears in their dressing room.

“Hi, Dan + Shay! So lovely to have you here,” she said. “So, look, this is the program: You’re gonna go out, you’re gonna do that first dance. We need you to do your song and be out of there because we have the DJ coming, we need to get people up and dancing. I’m sorry, but you’re just not that band, right? …OK, perfect. Thank you!”

As soon as the wedding planner steps out, Mooney laments it’s “so frustrating” to be known as “just the ‘ballad guys,’ (or the) ‘first dance guys.’” Smyers agrees that “we don’t need a DJ to get the people out on the dance floor. We got songs for that.”

“I think we should just go rogue and play the song,” Mooney says, as Smyers confirms, “the song?”

Dan + Shay take the stage at the reception and “get the real party started” with their new, not-your-average wedding song. Beginning as a stunning ballad, the duo transitions into a Vegas-worthy dance anthem.

“We should get married / Take it out to Vegas/ Find a little chapel / Hire us an Elvis/ Pink limousine longhorns on the hood/ Drinking champagne out the sunroof we could get you in a white dress / I could rent a cheap suit/ Feed each other wedding cake/ Book a little honeymoon / 7 days in Paris / Yeah I’m talking Tennessee/ Ain’t no point in waiting/ Baby I’m just saying / We should get married”

“We Should Get Married” comes as fans eagerly await the release of the duo’s next full-length album, Bigger Houses, set to release next month. Bigger Houses marks Dan + Shay’s first project since Smyers and Mooney opened up about nearly quitting music. Instead, they regrouped and have said that the band is stronger than ever. So far, they’ve released the title track, “Heartbreak On The Map” and “Always Gonna Be” from the album, due on September 15.

Ultimately, Dan + Shay decide in the video “that would be crazy,” if they played their unexpected wedding song, and head out of their dressing room to take the stage. “We’ll stick with the ballad.”
