Darius Rucker Investigates Smoldering Scene, Chases 'Flaming Fugitives'

Darius Rucker collects evidence from the rubble as he investigates the scene of a fire in the smoldering “Fires Don’t Start Themselves” music video. Rucker and his sprinkled donut-obsessed partner uncover wine glasses, a burned Conway Twitty record and other charred remains of household items as they try to track down a couple of “flaming fugitives.”

The passionate couple at the center of the video escape the home set ablaze, and end up sparking additional fires in a parked vehicle and other locations around town. Rucker and his partner continue the wild goose chase throughout the video, which premiered on CMT on Tuesday (September 5). Th country star released “Fires Don’t Start Themselves” — written by Ben Hayslip, Dan Isbell and Jacob Rice, and produced by Dann Huff — earlier this year.

“You know, it’s a song about that time when you’re sitting at home with your significant other or girlfriend or wife or boyfriend or husband or whatever, and you know it’s time. It’s time to get down to business,” Rucker grinned and laughed as he explained the story behind “Fires Don’t Start Themselves,” per his record label. “That’s what that song’s all about.”

“Fires Don’t Start Themselves” is one of 14 tracks set to appear on Rucker’s forthcoming album, Carolyn’s Boy, next month. Rucker previously explained that he named the long-awaited project after his late mother “because Mom never got to see any of my success. She died before any of this happened, so it’s just another homage to the greatest woman I’ve ever known.”
