Russell Dickerson and his wife, Kailey Dickerson, opened up about their miscarriage, what was “hands-down the hardest year of our lives,” how their faith carried them through those times, and more for the first time. They spoke about it on the season premiere of Kailey’s podcast on Wednesday (September 6). The husband and wife duo “laugh, we cry, and we talk about all the real stuff going on behind the scenes,” in the new episode of Coffee with Kailey. They also fielded a few questions from curious listeners, including how they avoid country music drama, life on the road and more.
Kailey first opened up about losing a baby in September 2022 — one year before her new Coffee with Kailey episode premiered — in an Instagram post on December 31, 2022. It happened in the midst of “the craziest year we have ever had,” and it “felt like drowning and trying to swim towards sun to find the surface,” she shared at the time, in part. “May we all give each other some more grace this next year… more kindness because we don’t know what someone is truly going through.”
Kailey recounted the loss with Russell, fighting back tears as she remembered how hard it was when “there was no heartbeat.” They added that it’s a “weird thing to show up to your job and pretend everything is fine…when your heart is shattered.”
Now, the Dickersons are getting ready to welcome Baby No. 2 — another boy, after they welcomed son Remington, almost 3 years old — this year. Kailey recently shared that she’s had “an extra dose of gratitude” during this pregnancy, including a stranger-turned-friend who prayed with them shortly before she got pregnant, sighing with relief as she heard her baby’s heartbeat and other moments. She said at the time: “It’s something I’ll never ever take for granted 🌈☁️ So thankful for this rainbow boy and my people who have stood beside us to get here 🫶🏼”
