A viral social media trend involving a Cash App exploit is now leaving many users thousands of dollars in debt. Several people across TikTok, YouTube, and other platforms have been advertising how to take advantage of a glitch that allows users to send an endless amount of money to their own accounts.

As a result, thousands of people rushed to load their Cash App with huge funds, spending their newfound money on food delivery services like DoorDash, Amazon orders, and other online purchases. According to the YouTube channel Lessons in Meme Culture, this glitch cropped up shortly after the company announced issues with sending payments last week.

"Some customers may be experiencing issues sending payments, purchasing Cash Card, and accessing other features. Our team is actively working on a fix," Cash App posted on X on September 7. "If you encountered an error in app, please don't reattempt the action. We're working to resolve everything as quickly as possible."

It didn't take long for Cash App to patch things up, which means the money people magically deposited into their accounts vanished as soon as it came. Over the last few days, people across the Internet have been posting about their Cash App balances going negative.

Some people have reported debts as low as negative $25, while others showed videos of them being short nearly $40,000. What makes things worse is that any outstanding balance incurred on the account will be drawn from bank accounts and other linked services to get that money back.

Now, online users are joking about anyone who suffered financial woes overnight from this trend.

"How do y’all not remember that last time everybody accounts was in the negative 😭," one TikTok user remarked.

"They gonna take they bread back," another wrote under someone's video.

"Homies gonna get a visit from the feds for sure," someone else wrote under TikToker Loc's viral video of his friend losing tens of thousands of dollars.
