53rd edition of My Random Thoughts: Sports, TV, music, food, life.....

Things that popped into my head this week.....

I keep things simple: Either the Bengals coaching staff prepares a game plan that schemes around Joe Burrow's limitations, and creates a capable offense, or, they turn to a backup QB. Pick one. No reason this offense should have three touchdowns in four games.

We watched Special Ops: Lioness on Paramount Plus. It was really good. Zoe Saldana and Laysla De Oliveira are excellent. I'm a big fan of Michael Kelly.

It was always a big deal when we got to eat dinner in the family room as kids. I'll never forget those fold out metal TV trays.

Do adults really believe in jinxes?

My grandma managed the Green Valley in Batavia for years. When we spent the weekend with her she'd take us to the Moonlight Chili. That was bigtime.

I cranked up 'Hold On Loosely' by .38 Special driving into work this week!

The Reds have seven winning seasons since 2000: David Bell has managed three of them.

We buy 8-pack cans of flavored Bubly Sparkling water. They have an Orange Cream flavor. Oh, man, tastes like the Push-Up I got from the ice cream truck!

Is there a Cincinnati athlete more beloved, despite how little they played here, than AJ McCarron?

We get an 'I Want My 80's' channel on altafiber. Looking back, 80's music videos were so cheesy.....but they are so awesome.

Sitting in a college football stadium and sitting through TV timeout after TV timeout is no longer doable for me.

Anyone seen Germaine Pratt?

Sure, I'd kick the tires on a Sonny Gray homecoming. He will be 34 next month and a free agent. Good veteran presence for the rotation. But..... you'd have to accept he's going to be a 5 innings a start/150 inning guy and make a trip or two to the IL during the season.

I can certainly make a case for bringing Joey Votto back. It wouldn't be in a starting role. It wouldn't be at $20M.

I understand some in the UC fan base are not enamored with Scott Satterfield. But how did you feel about Luke Fickell after a 4-8 debut season and his previous head coaching track record at OSU?

Driving home last night I heard a song I'd consider using to replace Baba O'Riley as a new show open: Everlong by Foo Fighters. Thoughts?

No Reds means more Sports Talk. I'm always looking for creative topics and guests. Let me know.

Watching the Supporter's Shield handed off from supporters to the FC Cincinnati players was really cool. I'd love to have the supporters bring it in studio one night.

I didn't get to see Dick Butkus play. But I certainly remember him on those classic Miller Lite commercials and his role as Coach Mike Katowinski on the Saturday morning NBC show 'Hang Time'

I wonder if coaches/managers in this city realize how good they have it with media here? We aren't New York or Philly, or Boston. Marvin Lewis never seemed to get that. Zac Taylor's snark this week would have really been cruuuuuuuushed in those cities. Back page of NY Post stuff. For the record, I'm happy not being those cities.

I started the Keurig without my cup under it this morning! Crap.

The new Bengals win total has been reset to 8.5 by sports books. Over or under?

I understand why guys would want to play for Pat Noonan. He just gets it, in so many ways.

You can find out a lot about a person and what they understand about baseball by talking to them about Joey Votto and David Bell.

My go-to arcade game was Galaga. I can still close my eyes and hear the sounds it made when the alien came flying down.
