After decades of telling his own stories through music, Clint Black found a fresh way to immerse himself in in-depth storytelling by other artists. The award-winning country star is slated to premiere a new lineup of interviews in the latest season of his talk show, Talking in Circles with Clint Black, with season five’s debut on Saturday (October 7).

Black recently caught up with iHeartCountry, shortly after filming a one-on-one interview with Come Get Your Wife superstar Elle King (“what a fun, zany, crazy, funny interview that was,” Black said immediately after the conversation, cherishing “a lot of laughs” with King).

“The idea for the show came from how many times I said to my manager when we were leaving someplace, ‘I wish the fans could’ve heard that conversation.’ Because the conversations we have in the green rooms and the backstage and the dressing rooms, all of those, they’re just different,” Black said. “We talk about different things than we do when we’re in an interview. The idea was that we will go wherever we wanna go with it. …Nobody cares if we wanna talk about guitar strings or earphone monitors, amplifiers, we can just geek out. And they’ve been amazing about it. If it’s interesting to us, that’s what they want because they want it to be different.

“We’ll talk about things that maybe a lot of people…really won’t know what we’re talking about. But it’s interesting to hear the way an artist talks about what it is that ultimately, they consume,” Black continued. “So, why do I love that song? I don’t know. But what they were saying about it was really different, and things you just don’t hear us talking about in those ways.”

Talking in Circles with Clint Black has featured conversations with Darius Rucker, Brad Paisley, Sara Evans, Tim McGraw, Terri Clark, Luke Combs, Chris Janson, Ricky Skaggs, and many others in previous seasons. Black said he can “never get to everything” he wants to ask his guests, and hourlong conversations quickly fly by. He added that although musicians embark on their own paths in the music industry, we’re all rooted in the same road.” Black often delves into behind-the-scenes questions, digging into songwriting processes and more. The Circle Network talk show is available via DISH Network, SlingTV, Spectrum Cable, Frndly and cable, as well as to stream via Tubi, Samsung TV Plus, Peacock, The Roku Channel, Redbox, XUMO, and VIZIO SmartCast. New episodes of Talking in Circles with Clint Black air on Saturday nights at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT.

The conversation with King — filmed shortly after Black accepted the Poet’s Award at the 16th annual ACM Honors for his impactful lyrics penned throughout his career — came together shortly after Black met the “Worth A Shot” artist. He knew he wanted to invited her on the show because “she was sweet,” he recalled, “and I know she’s funny.

“She’s really sweet. She’s crazy, but I think in a good way,” Black said. “That’s the whole thing. It’s just fun. She’s just so alive and bright and zany. We like it. We like the zany. That’s why we’re musicians.”
