Extreme recently brought "calm to the storm" with the highly-anticipated release of their "Hurricane" music video.

According to a press release, the single, featured on their latest album, Six, stands out to comfort and connect individuals who have struggled with the all-too-familiar, life-altering pain of losing a loved one. Frontman Gary Cherone and guitarist Nuno Bettencourt's voices blend in velvet tones, acting as a shoulder to lean on for those experiencing emptiness in their hearts, comparable to the extreme void inside the eye of a hurricane.

"Hurricane" reverses the cliche: "calm before the storm," painting the grieving process as the "storm before the calm" while simultaneously providing solace to listeners through intricate, intentional lyrics. The music video, including bassist Pat Badger and drummer Kevin Figueiredo, depicts all four band members holding onto the fading memory of deceased loved ones as if they were still walking beside them through life.

Bettencourt was inspired to write the single while grieving the death of a close friend.

“We get crushed by losing someone. Time passes and we calm down, but the pain never goes away.” Cherone mentioned that Bettencourt shines with an innate songwriting ability, made evident through the lyrics of "Hurricane."

“That’s where Nuno shines, man. Everyone looks at him as a guitar hero, but he’s a songwriter first. This is a beautiful piece of music.” Aside from releasing a new music video, Extreme's latest album, Six, is currently up for Grammy Consideration for Best Rock Album of the Year. "Rise," another single featured on the album, earned the band two additional Grammy Considerations in the Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song categories.

The band will kick off their Extreme 2024 U.S. Tour on October 24, 2023, in Glens Falls, New York.
