Passengers disembarking from a JetBlue flight at JFK Airport in New York City got quite a scare on Sunday (October 22) night as their plane tipped backward at the gate.
Flight 662 had just landed from Bridgetown, Barbados, and parked at the gate. As passengers began to get off the plane, the front of the jet lifted off the ground.
Videos posted on social media showed the Airbus A321 with its front landing gear several feet in the air and its nose pointing toward the sky.
JetBlue said that the shift in weight and balance as passengers got up caused the tail of the plane to sink and the nose of the plane to rise about 30 degrees in the air. The plane eventually leveled, and the passengers were able to get off the plane without further incident.
There were no reports of injuries.
JetBlue said they took the aircraft out of service after the incident for a complete inspection.
So…guessing weight balance on a jetliner is important after all? #JetBlue #JFK Being told it happened while passengers were still deplaning, no word yet on possible injuries. pic.twitter.com/66OoPJZF3k
