Wolfgang Van Halen Shares Favorite Family Holiday Memory

As he winds down Mammoth WVH activities in 2023, Wolfgang Van Halen looked back on his young but hyperdrive-paced solo career and some of his most treasured memories of celebrating the holidays at home.

Speaking with Q104.3 New York's Out of the Box with Jonathan Clarke with his final 2023 tour date in sight, Wolfie recalled why Christmas holds such a special place in his heart.

"I've always loved the feeling of Christmastime ... I don't know what it is about being six years old and being really super into trains, but I loved this one train set that my dad and I would set up that would go around our Christmas tree all the time," he recalled. "My mom, our tradition, is that she would make Pillsbury Cinnamon rolls. So it makes me think of the three of us doing that when I was growing up. And a lot of video games, because that's what I still love to this day. But [Christmas was] a lot of fun with my parents."

Wolfie and his live band are about to wrap up their first headlining U.S. tour. The multi-instrumentalist and frontman said it's hard to believe how busy he's been since launching his band in 2020.

Things happened quickly for Mammoth WVH; the band's third live performance ever was opening up for Guns N' Roses. Since then Wolfie has dropped two full-length albums and played a string of high-profile support gigs for GNR, Metallica, Alter Bridge and others, plus a co-headlining tour with Dirty Honey last year.

"It's absolutely ridiculous," Wolfie says. "Everything's moving so quickly, every chance I have to stop and think, I just think about how ridiculous everything is."
