The man accused of killing three women and dumping their bodies along a secluded beach in Long Island has been charged with killing a fourth woman. Rex Heuermann, the suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer, is accused of murdering 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes in charging documents unsealed on Tuesday (January 16).
In July 2023, Heuermann was arrested and charged with killing Amber Lynn Costello, 27, Melissa Barthelemy, 24, and Megan Waterman. Authorities linked him to the case using cell phone location data and DNA evidence. He pleaded not guilty to charges of first and second-degree murder.
Heuermann had been a prime suspect in killing Brainard-Barnes, whose body was recovered near Gilgo Beach in 2010 while authorities were searching for the body of Shannan Gilbert.
After the bodies of those four women were found, authorities uncovered six others in the area.
Heurermann is not suspected of being involved in all of the deaths.
