Cody Johnson Spotlights His Wife As He Tells The Story Of A Budding Romance

Cody Johnson told the story of a budding romance in the new Dustin Haney-directed music video for one of his latest singles, “The Painter.”
The video follows a couple from the day they meet on the dance floor of a bar to their wedding day and other milestones, with shots of Johnson interspersed throughout the story. The Texas-born singer-songwriter performs his heartfelt single in an open field, beginning in black-and-white and transitioning to color when his wife of 15 years, Brandi Johnson, joins him.
“The Painter” — by Benjy Davis, Kat Higgins and Ryan Larkins and produced by Trent Willmon — appears on Johnson’s latest full-length album, Leather. The 12-track collection made its debut in November, including collaborations with Brooks & Dunn and Jelly Roll, “Dirt Cheap,” “Work Boots,” “Watching My Old Flame,” and other highlights. Leather follows Ain’t Nothin’ To It in 2019 and Human The Double Album in 2021.

Johnson is kicking off his headlining “The Leather Tour” tonight in Sacramento, California. He’s set to perform in Arizona, Tennessee, Florida, Texas, Washington, and other destinations throughout the months-long tour. It comes to a close in August in Denver, Colorado.
