AT&T is planning to discontinue landline phone service for most of Northern California.

The move is part of the company's efforts to transition to a fully wireless network.

AT&T has already filed a request with the California Public Utilities Commission to begin the process of phasing out landline service.

The company plans to offer alternative options, such as wireless or internet-based phone service, to affected customers.
