Lainey Wilson posted photos on Instagram over the weekend to show that she was “having a Barbie moment.”

It turns out, however, that the “Country’s Cool Again” hitmaker was having more of a Ken moment.

Wilson, 31, agreed to stand in for award-winning and -nominated actor Ryan Gosling to perform “I’m Just Ken,” the iconic song from the smash-hit Greta Gerwig-directed film Barbie, which stars Gosling as Ken opposite Margot Robbie as Barbie. The cast of the highly-anticipated 2023 movie also included Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera and others.

Wilson joined “I’m Just Ken” co-writer Mark Ronson to deliver a surprise performance at the annual Pre-Grammy Gala, hosted by record producer Clive Davis, on Saturday (February 3), one day before the 66th Annual Grammy Awards took place at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. Wilson said in the press room backstage, per Billboard: “First of all, I feel more like Ken than Barbie, for sure. …it was so much fun. And it was stepping outside of my comfort zone, which I like to do – it was awesome.”

Ronson shared videos from the performance with Wilson on Instagram on Sunday (February 4), explaining in his caption: “We were so flattered when [Clive Davis] asked Ryan Andrew and I to perform ‘i’m just ken’ last night. As Ryan couldn’t be there , he told us to make sure we got the baddest country voice in the land and boy did we get lucky with [Lainey Wilson].”

Wilson scored her first-ever Grammy Award on Sunday evening, taking home the Best Country Album honor for her sophomore project, Bell Bottom Country. Fellow Grammy Award-winning artist Kacey Musgraveswho became the first artist ever to win all four country categories at the Grammys after winning in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category for “I Remember Everything” with Zach Bryan — presented Wilson with the award on stage.

The Baskin, Louisiana-born country artist said winning her first Grammy award was “absolutely wild, y’all.” She said in a previous interview with iHeartCountry that although it can be “really scary” to release her music into the world, it’s rewarding to see how fans connect with it. “That's what country music's about. It's about making people feel like they're not alone. And I've known from a very early age that I was supposed to be doing this, and it feels really nice to just be embraced.”

Wilson is also nominated at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards, alongside other heavy-hitters in the genre like Luke CombsJelly Roll and others. See the full list of country artists nominated here. Fans across the country will be able to watch the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards live as the show will be airing live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Monday, April 1st from 8pm-10pm ET live/PT tape-delayed on FOX.
