Kacey Musgraves Is 'Right Where I Need To Be' Ahead Of 'Deeper Well' Debut

Kacey Musgraves opened up about how Deeper Well reflects her life in ways unlike ever before.
The record-breaking Grammy Award winner is getting ready to debut her highly-anticipated fifth full-length studio album on Friday (March 15). The 14-track album is one that Musgraves, 35, said in an interview with PEOPLE reflects that she knows “myself better than in previous years, previous albums, and I just feel like I'm right where I need to be. ...Ultimately, the (title track) sums up where I'm at in my mid-30s and really evaluating what love means to me, what friendships mean to me, what are the things that I need, what is really serving me and not serving me. It's [about] taking stock and making room for the things that actually do really matter.”
The Texas-born singer-songwriter said in the interview that “life is so short,” and she encourages “being awake enough to be tuned in to paying attention to what the flow of nature is trying to tell you about what you need.”

Musgraves teased her forthcoming era with a commercial during the 2024 Grammy Awards, where Musgraves presented Lainey Wilson with the Best Country Album award (Bell Bottom Country) and won in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category for “I Remember Everything” with Zach Bryan (that victory marked Bryan’s first-ever Grammy win and made Musgraves the first artist to win in all four country categories at the Grammys). The commercial also included a link to her website with items labeled “KM5” for pre-order. At that time, the site only read, “the release date will be announced soon (before December 31, 2024).”
Shortly after that, however, Musgraves revealed that Deeper Well would arrive on March 15. She posted photos taken by her younger sister, photographer Kelly Christine Sutton, and described the album, produced with Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, as “a collection of songs I hold very dear to my heart. I hope it makes a home in all of your hearts, too.”
Since then, Musgraves has also released the title track and “Too Good to be True,” both of which she performed on Saturday Night Live during the March 2 show. Deeper Well is also making its debut hand-in-hand with a candle collection Musgraves created with Boy Smells. She noted in her interview with PEOPLE, in part, that “songs are tied to memories, and scent is one of the main things that trigger memories for people.”
After Deeper Well’s debut, Musgraves is gearing up for her headlining world tour. The first show is set for late April in Dublin, Ireland. Musgraves will also take the stage in Belgium, the U.K. and other destinations before returning to the U.S. for additional shows, beginning in early September with State College, Pennsylvania. The tour will wrap up with back-to-back nights in Nashville, Tennessee.
Musgraves will play Deeper Well in its entirety for the first time during a one-night-only show at the historic Ryman Auditorium, located in Downtown Nashville, she announced on Wednesday morning (March 13). Tickets will be available to the general public on Thursday (March 14) at 10 a.m. CT.
