Carly Pearce shared her reaction to an emotional rendition of her heartache duet with fellow singer-songwriter Chris Stapleton on The Voice on Monday night (March 18). Contestants L. Rodgers and Tae Lewis, representing Team Reba McEntire, performed “We Don’t Fight Anymore” during The Voice Battles.

Pearce teamed up with award-winning artist Stapleton — with permission from his wife, Morgane Stapleton — to deliver the collaboration in June 2023 as she prepared her next chapter of music. “We Don’t Fight Anymore” tells the story of a relationship that’s lost its spark, and the two people face “the really painful truth that sometimes a relationship can go cold and be indifferent.” The song appears on hummingbird, Pearce’s highly-anticipated, fourth full-length studio album that’s set to release on June 14.

“I’ve always wanted to write music that makes people feel something — whether that is feeling seen, less alone, happy or even uncomfortable. ‘We Don’t Fight Anymore’ felt like I was writing one of those stories that, whether or not we want to include it in our social media highlight reel, we’ve either been there or are living there right now,” Pearce previously said in a statement of the inspiration behind her latest ballad. “Having Chris Stapleton join me on this song was a dream come true and he unlocked an element to the story that I didn’t even know it needed.”

Rodgers and Lewis took the stage with a performance that left Coach Chance the Rapper “mesmerized.” First-time coaching duo Dan + Shay also applauded the cover. Dan Smyers acknowledged, “that’s a tough song. I’ve never heard anyone cover that song, and y’all covered the heck out of it.” Coach John Legend hailed them both “fantastic vocalists.”

“I am so proud of y’all. That was absolutely more than I could’ve wished for…everything was perfect,” McEntire said before making the “really, really tough” decision to advance Lewis to the Knockouts. The beloved country artist said, “L vs. Tae was incredible, but Tae needed to move forward because he’s a country singer but he’s also very soulful, and I think he could sing anything. I think he’s gonna do great in the Knockout rounds.”

That wasn’t the end for Rodgers, however. Ultimately, McEntire used her one-time-only Playoff Pass — beating Chance the Rapper’s steal attempt — to save Rodgers and send her past the Knockouts into the Playoffs, per NBC’s description of the pass.

“L has a beautiful voice, but it’s not only her voice. It’s her attitude. It’s her stage presence,” McEntire said. “So, she gets to skip the Knockout rounds and go straight to the Playoffs.”

Pearce shared her reaction to the heartfelt performance by Rodgers and Lewis on Monday night, writing in a post on X, formerly Twitter: “YALL. BETTA. SING. 🥲❤️” Watch the “mesmerizing” performance here:
