Morgan Wade Posts Recovery Update Months After Undergoing Double Mastectomy

Morgan Wade shared details about her healing journey since undergoing a preventative double mastectomy and reconstruction four months ago. The Psychopath artist posted a few photos on Instagram on Sunday (March 24) — including a side-by-side to show her progress — as she opened up about her recovery and addressed a few questions she’s received.

Wade, 29, explained that because of her RAD51D gene mutation and a family history of breast cancer, she decided to be “proactive.” The National Cancer Institute listed RAD51D among several other protein-truncating variants in genes that are strongly associated with breast cancer risk, including BRCA1 and BRCA2, for example. Wade previously said as she announced her decision to undergo a double mastectomy that women with the RAD51D mutation “have about a 10-20 percent lifetime risk for ovarian, fallopian tube or primary peritoneal cancer (these three cancers and their risks are related and are often referred to together as ovarian cancer). (They also) have about a 20-40 percent lifetime risk for breast cancer with a tendency for triple-negative breast cancer.” Wade later added a comment to express her gratitude for the support she received (and include a response to those who were “upset” by her decision).

“It’s been 4 months and I’ve been back to powerlifting and running,” Wade shared in her update. “Started back to that around January. There have been a few things I haven’t been able to do until now - the last month I’ve finally been back to doing what I want. Push-ups, pull-ups and getting a massage (couldn’t lay on my stomach).”

The “Wilder Days” star then addressed some of the questions she’s had since opening up about her health and proactive surgery, including that she got implants and is happy with them, it took an adjustment to look at herself and she’s still adjusting to the way her body looks, and her next steps.

“I have 0 regrets and I am extremely happy with the choice I made,” Wade shared. “I am blessed God got me through this and has allowed me to heal fast and I look forward to a healthy long life Lord willing. …Thank you all for continuous prayers and support and love. Excited to be working and getting ready for tour.”
