Elephant Kills American Tourist After Chasing Safari Truck For Half A Mile

An American tourist was killed by an elephant while on safari at Kafue National Park in Zambia. According to the Daily Mail, the elephant stalked a safari truck carrying six tourists on Saturday (March 30), chasing it for about half a mile.

The driver tried to speed away but was forced to stop after his route became blocked.

Terrifying video captured the moment the massive ten-foot-tall bull elephant, which weighed about five tons, catches up to the truck and knocks it around like a toy, using its trunk to flip it on its side.

“Our guides are all extremely well trained and experienced, but sadly in this instance the terrain and vegetation was such that the guide’s route became blocked and he could not move the vehicle out of harm’s way quickly enough," Wilderness Chief Executive Officer Keith Vincent said.

An 80-year-old American woman was killed in the attack, and another tourist was seriously injured. The other four tourists on the truck sustained minor injuries. Authorities have not identified the victims.

"This is an extremely tragic event, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the guest who died," Vincent said. "We are also, naturally, supporting those guests and the guide involved in this distressing incident. The deceased will be repatriated to the USA."
