Trisha Yearwood debuted her vulnerable new ballad "Put It In A Song" during an intimate performance at the 2024 CMT Music Awards on Sunday (April 7).

Yearwood made her first appearance on the CMT stage since 2019 to treat the crowd to the first song from her upcoming album, which is extra notable as it features a collection of songs co-written by herself. This personal take continued on in her laid-back performance of the track on stage.

Accompanied by two acoustic guitars, Yearwood commanded the stage in a single spotlight as she was surrounded by handwritten lyrics from "Put It In Song," a full-circle moment as the lyrics read, "All the pain and all the hurt, when it's too hard just to say the words, I find my pen and pour it on the page, grab a guitar and just play along, and it don't matter who was right or wrong, just put it in a song."

In addition to the beautiful performance, Yearwood was also honored with the inaugural June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award as CMT recognized her for her "unique ability to rally a community." While accepting the award, she praised its namesake, saying that she hoped "to be as big a part of my community and as good of a friend to artists as she was."

She added, "My hope is that we can all learn a little bit from June Carter Cash's legacy and be a little bit more real, a little bit more vulnerable, be a little bit less about 'me' and more about 'us.'"
