Ford is recalling nearly 43,000 SUVs because a leak from the fuel injectors can cause an engine fire. The recall covers certain 2022 and 2023 model-year Ford Bronco Sport SUVs and all 2022 Escape SUVs. The vehicles all have 1.5-liter engines.

The automaker said that the fuel injectors can crack and allow a buildup of gasoline and vapors which can ignite in the intense heat of the engine.

Ford has received five reports of under-the-hood fires due to the issue. The company also completed 14 warranty replacements of the cracked fuel injectors.

To fix the issue, technicians will install a tube to keep gasoline away from the hot surfaces inside the engine. The repair will also include an update to the fuel control software to disable the high-pressure fuel pump if there are any drops in pressure in the fuel injection system.

You can check to see if your car is under recall by going to nhtsa.gov/recalls and entering your 17-digit vehicle identification number.
