Man Attempted To Kill Baby By Poisoning Breastmilk With Antifreeze: Police

A Georgia man has been sentenced after he attempted to kill his daughter by poisoning her breastmilk with antifreeze, according to authorities per PEOPLE.

Curtis Jack tampered with bottles of breastmilk that he was delivering to his 18-day-old child's grandmother on October 1, 2020, the City of South Fulton Police Department said.

At the time, the child's mother was hospitalized after giving birth on September 24, 2020. Jack had picked up the bottles from the mother and took them to his child's grandmother, who was caring for the infant amid her mother's hospitalization.

The 18-day-old child became "critically ill" within a day of Jack dropping off the bottles. The newborn was taken to a hospital where she tested positive for ethylene glycol, a “chemical often found in automotive antifreeze."

Following an investigation, Jack was named as a suspect in the poisoning. A warrant for his arrest was issued on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder and cruelty to children in the first degree.

Jack admitted to authorities that he added the antifreeze to his child's breastmilk. Authorities later learned that Jack had “insisted” that the mother of the child terminate her pregnancy.

Jack faced a trial for the attempted murder of his child, and a jury found him guilty on all counts. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

“A special thanks to Madam Fani Willis and the Fulton County District Attorney's Office in obtaining justice for the victim and her mother,” South Fulton police wrote in a statement.
