series of severe storms spawned 17 tornadoes across seven states on Monday (May 6) night and Tuesday morning. Oklahoma was the hardest hit, as seven tornadoes left a trail of destruction across the state.

Osage County Sheriff Eddie Virden said that one person was killed and 15 people were injured when a two-mile-wide tornado struck Barnsdall, destroying roughly one-third of the town.

Tornadoes and high winds also caused damage across parts of Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and South Dakota.

The National Weather Service warned that millions of people across the Midwest are still at risk of dangerous weather through Wednesday.

"As the front advances eastward on Tuesday, it will bring with it showers and severe thunderstorms, particularly over parts of the Ohio Valley and Middle Mississippi Valley. In light of this, the SPC has issued an Enhanced Risk (level 3/5) of severe thunderstorms over parts of Indiana, western Ohio, and north-central Kentucky through Wednesday morning. The potential hazards associated with these thunderstorms are frequent lightning, severe thunderstorm wind gusts, hail, and a few tornadoes. There is also a heightened threat of EF2 to EF5 tornadoes and hail two inches or greater over the area," the NWS said.
