Questions Surround Why White Mom Not Charged For Storing Babies In Freezer

Questions surround why a Boston mother isn't facing charges after her four babies were found dead in a freezer in her apartment, the Atlanta Black Star reports.

Police initially discovered the bodies of two boys and two girls belonging to Alexis Aldamir wrapped in foil paper, put in shoe boxes, and stashed in her apartment's freezer in November 2022. The bodies were said to have been stored in the freezer for decades. DNA testing revealed that the babies' biological father had died in 2011.

“All of the babies were full term, which means they were determined to be between 37 and 40 weeks of gestational age. All four had their umbilical cords attached, and the two females had their placentas attached,” Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said in a statement, noting there were no signs of trauma or "obvious" injuries to the babies.

Despite many lingering questions surrounding the case, Hayden announced that an investigation into the incident was closed.

“This investigation, which is one of the most complex, unusual, and perplexing that this office has ever encountered, is now complete," the DA said.

Social media users expressed confusion over the decision to close the case.

A medical examiner was unable to determine a cause or manner of death for the babies as well as if the victims were born alive or exactly how long their bodies were in the freezer. A press release noted that “there were no signs of food, or milk, or formula inside the babies’ stomachs.”

According to reports, investigators found Aldamir in a confused state in a residential healthcare facility, which contributed to the decision to not pursue charges. Prosecutors reportedly said she wouldn't be able to stand trial due to her cognitive abilities.

“A prosecutor’s office cannot ethically move forward with a case that, in good faith, it believes it cannot bring to trial,” Hayden said in a statement. “Here, based on the evidence obtained through the investigation, including the many unanswered questions about the cause of death of the four babies, prosecutors have made the determination that they will not be able to bring this case to trial.”

Several social media users pointed out the double standard in how white women are treated in these cases compared to their Black counterparts.

“One thing we do know unequivocally,…Alexis Aldamir is WHITE,” one person wrote on X.

“That is so strange. All four were term. Idk this doesn’t sound like stillborns. Frustrating that there will be no further investigation,” another said.
